Biography

Petre Roman is a Romanian politician that held key positions in the post-communist Romanian governments. He was the first Romanian prime-minister after the end of the communist rule. Subsequently, he became chairman of the Defence Committee within the Chamber of Deputies, and afterwards president of the Senate. In 1999 he was appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government of prime-minister Mugur Isarescu. He is also a former Special Rapporteur to the North Atlantic Assembly and a former President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation. Mr. Roman is the founder of the Romanian political party Democratic Force.
